Sullivan Christmas Dec. 30, 2007

Here is a photo show of our Christmas. Hopefully it will let all of those who were not able to join us, get a feeling of being here with us, & to those of us that were here, bring us back to the moment. I personally, felt it was a good day. Comfortable, relaxed, good food, good visiting.
Happy New Year!

The Christmas that almost wasn't, and maybe shouldn't have?

http://photoshow.comcast.net/watch/KQ3kC8BT Let's see if this works. It's just us, warts & all having a Christmas Day. You will notice, I never finished my village, never finished my tree & observe the fabulous gifts that "G" rec'd. To top it all off, I had to sit through a crazy movie, Mr. Beans Holiday. If this does not work, I'll try emailing. I think that all of you that did not make it this year will feel better about missing the day with family.

Merry Christmas!!

You really do need to check these guys out .. very funny and still well-done!

Christmas Wish

Hi everyone,
We have been following the NE weather patterns from here, you guys are really getting slammed. I don't think there has been that much snow in Dec. in years. Kris said they had a foot and a half of snow, and that was before this week's storm. I have to admit I don't miss driving in a blizzard. Peg said it was like the Blizzard of 78' on 128 and 495 , shut down with abandoned cars. I didn't have time to do a Christmas letter this year, I've been averaging 45-50 hours not including my commute. Working in a traditional store at Christmastime is way more work than I'm used to at this time of year.
Living here has really reduced our stress. The house does not need thousands of dollars of work, the cost of living is less, so there is way less stress about money. We seem to have achieved the breathing room we needed. We also get to see Kynna and family which is really cool. The girls are a source of great joy and laughter. Joelle, Ariel, and Zac are carving new futures for themselves they they are really excited about. Dan and I just have to find a new social circle to broaden ourselves, I'm sure that will come with time.
We went to 2 Art Bazaars on Monday, the small Blue Genie Fair, and the Armadillo Christmas Bazaar. They were both amazing, every time we turned a corner we saw paintings, sculpture, glass, pottery, fiber arts, and jewelry that were very exciting to see. There were also bands playing. This is a very cool place to be.
We have been getting your Christmas cards , every single one is a gift. I loved the pictures!
We have also received some packages from elves, we are really grateful.
Everyone here sends hugs and kisses , and wishes for a peaceful new year!
Merry Christmas,
Julie, Dan Joelle, Ariel, Zac and Melly

Sara and Mrs. Hughes...

I am rotfl!!!
She's GREAT!

Please send more links like that. We should, like, "perma-link" that one. Whatever that means.

Sara's info:
7853 Blue Lake Dr.
San Diego, CA 92119

cell# 1-774-274-9611 (costs her)
house# 1-619-461-4550 (costs Martin)

It's been a little "weird" this Christmas, for me.
I finally got the goodies sent, which SHOULD arrive in time for Christmas. But I waffle between tear-verging and on-a-mission.
It will all level out at some point.
Oh well, my new favorite line: "It is what It is".

I was telling Peg (and whoever else) that papier mache may become my new medium. I remember trying and liking it as a child. I would really like to re-visit that craft.
I'd love that I'd get to do 3D. I'd love that I'd get my hands into it. I'd love that it recycles materials. (Of course, I love that I get to make up something, too.)

Unfortunately, the more I read up, the messier and wetter it sounds. I don't mind any of that, I just can't accomodate much of it in my current environment. It may have to be on a small scale in the winter, while indoors, and then larger messier scale in good weather.

(If the topics seem dis-jointed, I'm sorry. My current theme is: catch a falling thought and put it down on paper.)

No, really, there IS a thread.

I have harbored creative, inventive ideas for a long time and would like to try my hand at some. In view of the fact that I am no longer housing an offspring in my small abode, I have regained some space in which I can set up my "projects" and not be using up living/eating space.
Well, we'll see, won't we?

(It's also about filling a hole, of course.)

Good Night.

And on an hysterical note ...... ROTFL!

http://crackle.com/c/High_Wire/Mrs_hughes_skewed_views/2041059

Enjoy!!!!!!!

Whoa, what a shocker....

I just read that Dan Fogelberg died @ 56. I did not realize he was sick, prostate cancer. Nor did I realize he lived in Maine. He is one of those musicians that I always thought I would go see sometime. There was always someone else I wanted to see just a little bit more, & would catch on the next run. I think he's the second player that I feel like I missed out on now. Robert Palmer being the first. It's kinda sad, you almost expect or are not shocked if you hear about a drug overdose. When a plane goes down, it's an accident. But cancer & heart attacks, make it seem so real, so close to home.

BUT ON A HAPPIER NOTE, I need Sara's new address someone please!

I also have decided that I am done shopping, so I apologize to anyone ahead that I don't have a gift for. I will make it up, but I just gotta be done. Maybe I'll get some lights or decorations on the tree!

Snow!

The first real snow of the season is here! It has just started and should end up around 6" or more! Now I remember why I love living on the East Coast.

Not feeling to well....

I have been reading, just haven't been feeling good enough to really contribute. (miserable cold) I hope everyone else keeps it up & I'll be back on soon! G & I did go out today, went to one place & bought a tree. It's in the garage & the cars in the driveway. What's wrong with this picture?

Phew (or How I love my new little car!)

Just took 2 1/2 hours to get home .. a drive that normally takes about 20 minutes.

It was a messy, frozen, snowy, chilling and scary drive; but my adorable little car handled it so beautifully! even sliding it reacted to my slight handling on the wheel and righted itself and kept me safe and sound on the road and out of any snowbanks, ditches or other cars!

Yes, I do still love winter, but am truly gratefully that in 4 more days I will be working at home!

When I saw that MY posts were signed Peg...

I went onto the leydensullivans and edited the profile. Peg's name and Afghanistan were in the profile. Also the occupation was accounting. I think because those choices are the first in a drop down list box.

When I log onto MY gmail and contribute a post as an author, MY name shows, but as leydensullivans, it was Peg.
So, any other suggestions for a name for the Sullivania "identity"?

New topic;
I called Sara while I was driving or rather NOT driving down Main St while big fat white flakes made everyone into idiot drivers. I told her she really dodged that bullet and she just snickered.
I think this winter is gonna be a beaut and my snow shoveler just moved to CA!

I also remember the skating at the bridge with the hot chocolate outdoors.
Hey, I'll try hitting the rink if anyone wants.

Talk later
K8

Names???

Hey K8, how many times can you change who the post is from? Or is it Peg, or Dan & Phyl's Descendants or??

Black Ice

I remember looking for the clearest, black ice to skate on. Some would have white swirls like a cloud was flash frozen in the middle and other areas would still have some roots or twigs frozen close to the edge. You could take a real tumble if you weren't careful. One of my favorite skating memories is when we went to east bridgewater with Lou's family and we'd skate under the bridge, light a fire & drink hot chocolate. Ice skating is one of the activities I miss the most, that & bike riding. It must be the exhilaration from the speed that I go for. (Ya think!)

HEY Everybody!

So I'm here in S.D. We made it safe and sound. It was actually one of the fastest rides I have ever taken . Well it felt fast because I was so preoccupied with Summer. I got to put her on the seat next to me, it was open and the woman next to the window was really nice about it. The flight attendant even helped me give her another pill mid flight. She is still adjusting, met the other cat in the house they kinda scuffed, not to pleased with the sound of my Pops voice but she'll get used to it.
Anyways it was a lovely 80 degrees or so today and I'm loving it. My first round of boxes came, still unpacking, settling in.
Gotta run doing this from my friend Tenille's house and her son JJ is driving me CRAZY! ttfn Love you guys :)

More on the skating...

I remember how it sounded when we skated over the ripples, a rapid trill of hollow blips, that made our feet vibrate.
About Black river; being a true swamp there were many narrow pools that froze over into paths, usually one being the widest, most solidly frozen and winding. We "brave" girls going down the path through the dark stick-like woods never knew when the boys (the enemy) were going to come swooping in from a side path and try to make us scatter or fall.

"Falling through" pretty much meant your skate time was over because you'd most likely be soaked from your knees down. It was never very deep in any place and I think that's why our folks let us go "un-adulterated".

I think each one of us had the pleasure of that bone-chilling skate-tip prancing walk back to our warm kitchens to divest of our woolen layers, draping them on the rack over the floor register. I can recall the pungent smell of wet wool steaming and slowly drying. I can still see the mittens, hats and scarves with those little "ice-balls" clinging to the fibers. I can still feel the burning sting of our ears and cheeks as they returned to warmth.
I also remember the blanketed hush of a snowy evening when your voice carried easily down the white street. I never knew why that happened but I think we all experienced that.

Maybe because I've spent so much time away, I do not feel the same embrace of the season as expressed by Breck. I may, however be re-awakening my inner New Englander this year. I am making it my goal to enjoy where I am and no longer desire to live elsewhere. It has even crossed my mind to get on one of those "ski trip" bus trips and see how hard it is for an old dog to learn a new trick. I have tried it a few times and actually enjoyed the few successful runs I was able to complete.
Who knows, stranger things have happened.
